Kaufman, Texas – The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office takes great pleasure in announcing our Fourth Annual Drug “Take-Back” initiative sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Last year in Texas alone over 37,445 pounds of drugs were collected.
This year we are teaming with the following Police Departments in this event. With the help of Combine, Crandall, Forney, Talty, Kaufman, Mabank, Seagoville, and Terrell Police Departments, Kaufman County residents have a drop location at each of these departments. Sheriff David A. Byrnes stated “This event is extremely important for our county residents, and this year with 100% participation of all the Police Departments, we will be able to further our efforts in combating the abuse of drugs-both illicit and illegal prescription drugs in our county.
This “Take Back” event seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft. Often young people only have to go as far as the medicine cabinet at home to find drugs. To combat this growing problem, both locally and nationally, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, is teaming up with all the Police Departments in Kaufman County, as well as the Drug Enforcement Administration and other agencies to offer every citizen of Kaufman County a place to come and drop off any unused, unwanted or outdated prescriptions with no questions asked.
Please join us on Saturday September 29, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p. m. Please contact a police department near you for drop locations. The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and the Kaufman Police Department will man a drop location at the County Courthouse Square located in downtown Kaufman. We will be housed out of the Sheriffs Office Emergency Communications Trailer.
Please use this opportunity to open discussion with the young people in you household about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.
We look forward to seeing you. “Together we can make a difference”
