Kemp Texas, - Kaufman County deputies responded to a call regarding a burglary at the Hillcrest Baptist Church on the outskirts of Kemp on January 2, 2012, at approximately 10:50 a.m.. Witnesses told deputies that someone had broken into the building and had left a vehicle parked in the church parking lot. Kaufman County Sheriffs deputies quickly put the new K-9 Nurmo into action to clear the building, making it safe for deputies to enter. Finding no suspect in the building, Nurmo led deputies to a possible suspect located on a gravel road behind the church.
The suspect was taken into custody, and after an investigation, Louis Lee Underwood, 25, of Garland was arrested and charged with burglary of a building, fraudulent use/Possession of identifying information, a warrant out of McKinney PD, a warrant out of Dallas PD, and three warrants out of Dallas County.
Underwood was transported to the Kaufman Law Enforcement Center without incident, where he remains without bond.
