Crandall Texas,- After a week long investigation, Kaufman County narcotics deputies along with patrol deputies arrested a Mesquite resident in an undercover drug operation.
On August 3, 2012 at approximately 8:43 pm. deputies arrested Christopher Leonard Higgins, 41, of Mesquite at the Exxon station located in Crandall and charged him with Manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group one over 4 Grams but under 200 Grams. When asked permission to search his vehicle Higgins stated no, so deputies deployed the K-9 Unit to initiate an open air search of the vehicle. The K-9 dog alerted to the driver’s side of the vehicle, and after a search was done, several baggies containing what was believed to be methamphetamines, a pipe normally used to smoke “meth”, one set of scales used in weighing illegal narcotics and over $1000.00 in cash was located inside the vehicle.
Higgins was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Kaufman County Law Enforcement Center where he remains with bond set at $750,000.00.
